Is Plastic better than Metal?

handpieceSM.jpgThe Turbo Carver's pen like body, is made of high impact, rigid ABS plastic (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene). Unlike the much less expensive Polystyrene plastic, ABS has excellent abrasion and moisture resistance, as well as resistance to chemicals, acids and alkalis.  The more expensive, metal versions are susceptible to alkalis, and oxidation that results from the inevitable presence of moisture from the air compressor.

Light weight is another advantage of using a Carbon Composite turbine and an ABS plastic housing (body). Metal versions are considerably heavier and can cause fatigue after a short period of time. The Turbo Carver II, however, is very light and feels much like a normal writing pen. It also has a soft textured rubber grip for great stability in the hand allowing you to carve or engrave for hours without fatigue.

The best advantage of the Turbo Carver II over other high speed carving tools, is the patented Anti-Contamination pinch valve and 5 micron filter that keeps dust and dirt from getting into the turbine and "bearings". Because of this valve, the Turbo Carver II, never has to be lubed, that's right, LUBE-FREE (ABEC7) high tech bearings. Other high speed carving tools require lubrication at regular intervals and this lubrication ends up getting all over everything, including your art.

Turbo Carver II uses a one piece, carbon composite turbine assembly. There is no costly chuck to wear out and no wrenches necessary. Since there are fewer parts concentricity is superior to its metal counterparts thus reducing vibration and noise. Concentricity of this new turbine is between 0 and .0002

Most other high-speed instruments create a vacuum that draws contamination into the front bearing, a leading cause of bearing failure. This is why some manufacturers require you to disassemble and clean the bearings on a routine basis. We have eliminated the vacuum with a patented pinch valve on the exhaust outlet. Another cause of bearing failure is heat buildup in the bearings. The valve increases airflow through the bearings, keeping them cool while running at speeds up to 450,000 rpm. Why else would they offer replacement turbine/bearing assemblies for sale... because they fail.

So when the other guys say, "metal is best", keep in mind that ours has the same warranty, is more comfortable, requires no maintenance, and our manufacturing costs, allow us to offer you a considerably lower price, allowing you to spend more on burs, and accessories.
