WATER MIST SPRAY ACCESSORY FOR THE TURBO CARVER II HAND PIECE

spraydot.jpgCarving with a rotary instrument in materials such as bone, egg, antler, glass, gemstones, rock and the like produces dust and fumes that are not only extremely messy but also present a hazard to your health. Working with materials like these requires wearing a respirator or using a dust collector box. Dust collectors are noisy, expensive and do not eliminate fumes. To prevent breathing these harmful fumes it is necessary to vent the exhaust outdoors. This can be very expensive, especially during cold winter months. Using a dust collector also requires that you work through a glass window, making it difficult to carve fine details Ultra Speed Products (USP) has a solution to these problems.

Ultra Speed Products recently introduced a new hand piece that never requires lubrication, called Turbo Carver II. In addition to the new hand piece USP is making available a water mist spray system accessory.

Water Mister SystemThe mist system starts with the foot control that operates the hand piece, at the same time it pressurizes a small storage tank that you fill with distilled water. A small amount of air that drives the hand piece is diverted to the bottom of the handle through hypodermic tubing where it is directed at the tip of the cutting bur. At the same time the hand piece is operated a valve opens, allowing a metered amount of water to travel to the bottom of handle through separate hypodermic tubing. The air mixes with the water to produces an extremely fine mist of water that is aimed at the tip of the cutting bur. The water flow rate is about 1 drop per second and requires only a bath towel to absorb the moisture.

Water mist has many advantages, it cools the cutting bur, making them last much longer. It eliminates virtually all the dust and 90% of the fumes. It also gives a more polished cut and actually strengthens porous materials such as egg or bone. No heat is built up in the material being worked. The mist won't obstruct details as happens when working with the surface covered by water. The mist spray can be turned off without disturbing the flow adjustment.
